Background

Darren was one of the early pioneers of Street Luge Racing, starting in the late 1970s. Participating in the first (underground) racing series, he was pictured in SkateBoarder magazine (July 1980) getting a ticket.

Moving into organized adventures, Darren spent three years as a professional SCUBA instructor and Master Diver trainer. He taught Wreck diving, Night diving, Navigation, and Search & Recovery. He acted as a Shark Divemaster, pushing sharks away as he escorted divers between the boat and protective cage.

Darren's background includes motocross racing, rock climbing, and martial arts. He is a fifth degree black belt in Kung Fu San Soo, which led him to choreograph the fight scenes in the 1990 movie Circuitry Man. In 2003 he rode a KTM 640 Adventure motorcycle from Mexico to Canada - on dirt trails.

With close to 200 jumps, he holds an Advanced Skydiving License. In fact, it was his connections at the drop zone that led to a featured segment on California Extreme Sports as a Land Luge Racer.

In 1994, Darren rejoined the Street Luge Racing scene and has been one of the top finishers for over a decade.

After the 1997 X Games, Darren was elected by his peers as an ESPN Athlete Representative and was elected to a 2nd term in 1998.

Darren appears in numerous magazine, book, film, DVD and television features; including ESPN's X Games, NBC Gravity Games, NBC sports, Sony Extreme Games Australia, ABC Wild World of Sports, IMAX, BBC, BBC2, OCNOW's "Sports Talk", Telemundo's Adrenalina, ESPN's "Sports Figures", MTV's "Call to Greatness."
