Notes: These files were sent by David Fielden in June 2004, based on Chaput's drawings of my Gumball Machine. Although one set of trucks are backward in the exploded view, it really gives an idea of the finished components. David also worked out an improved drawing of the main body. However, he noticed the overall length added up to 49.5" which is a mistake. The overall dimensions of that peice are 12" wide by 48" long. Here was my response: "David, I ran your measurements against my board. Everything looks great and the numbers check, except for the 21" measurement. The lines in question are APPROXIMATELY parallel. I'll guess you let the computer figure out how long a line at that angle needed to neck down to 5". Actually, the 19.5" is correct, not the 21" result. When you make it out of wood, everything turns out approximate, so you set markers all along the way, so errors don't become cumulative. In early iterations of the design, the back was 6", but it was not comfortable. That space fits between your shoulder blades and lets you control the back end better than a converntional luge, and thus be able to take advantage of the double trucks in back. 12" wide was another key design decision, so you could get more boards out of a 4'x8' piece of plywood. (And no you don't have to be concerned with the saw blade width that gets lost.) Depending on your router, the trucks (it's designed for RIIs and Gumballs), the wheel pour, etc., you will want to revisit any places where the wheels or trucks rub and file away the last little bit of wood to fit. Keep me posted. -Darren"
